How to play

A two-minute read. After this you go sabi the whole thing.

The goal: beat the touts, pick up the evidence they drop, then knock the corrupt politician down once you have enough evidence. That convicts him and returns the money he stole.

Every politician in the game is made up. The trouble they cause isn't.

1Beat the touts

Tobi swinging his placard at a group of area boys on a Lagos street
Walk up to them and hit. Keep hitting to combo.

Each constituency starts with a few waves of the politician's boys: area boys, park agberos, youth wing members and, later, police-for-hire with shields. Walk up to one and press J (or HIT on a phone). Press it again quickly to chain a combo.

When a crowd surrounds you, roll out of the way with Space (ROLL). You can't be hit mid-roll.

2Pick up the evidence

Glowing documents and a naira note lying on the road after a fight
Glowing papers on the road are evidence. Walk over them.

Knocked-out touts often drop evidence: glowing papers on the road. Walk over them to pick them up. The counter at the top right shows how many you have against how many you need, for example Evidence 3/5 to convict. When it turns green and says case ready, you have enough.

Pick-ups don't wait. They start blinking after about seven seconds and vanish soon after, so grab them between fights. You'll also find naira (money returned to the people) and pure water sachets, which heal you.

3Face the politician

Councillor Stipend in a blue agbada, with his health bar at the top of the screen
His name and health bar appear at the top. Read his hint when he arrives.

Clear the waves and the politician arrives. His health bar shows at the top. Each one has a dirty trick, and a hint at the bottom of the screen tells you how to beat it when he walks in. Some call in more boys while you fight, and those drop evidence too, so keep collecting.

4Knock him down to convict

The politician knocked flat and the words CONVICTED! ₦250.0m returned to the people
Full evidence plus a knockdown: convicted, and the money goes back.

Bring his health to zero with enough evidence and he's convicted. The money he stole is returned to the people and you move on to the next, bigger politician.

Knock him down without enough evidence and he escapes on a plea bargain. He'll come back later in new party colours, tougher than before. So collect first, then finish him.

Reading the screen

Top bar

Health. Touts and the boss chip it away. Sachets bring it back.

Second bar

Aluta. Fills as you land hits. When it's full, fire your special with K or #.

Third bar

Skill. Your fighter's own move. It recharges in a second or a few.

Top right

Money returned, evidence and lives. Three lives per run. Lose all your health and you're detained: you lose a life and retry the level.

Pick your fighter

Final-year student

Tobi. Fastest on his feet. Throws his placard from range. Special: a trending thread that stuns everyone.

Market woman

Mama Iyabo. Toughest, and pure water heals her double. Slams the ground to floor everyone around her. Special: the market women charge.

Okada rider

Musa. Longest, quickest roll. Dashes through a line of touts untouched. Special: a full-speed okada charge down his lane.

Nurse

Nkechi. Slowly heals when she isn't being hit. Her sedative dart puts a tout to sleep. Special: Code Red, a shockwave that heals her.

New to the game? Start with Mama Iyabo. She can take the most punishment while you learn.

Between levels: the People's Stall

A tenth of everything you return goes into your kitty. Spend it at the stall between constituencies: bigger placards, boxing gloves, a riot shield, a whistle that stuns everyone when you're in trouble, a camera phone that turns up more evidence, and bail bonds for extra lives. What you buy lasts for the rest of the run.

The politicians and their tricks

PoliticianHow to beat him
Councillor StipendHe pays his boys to heal them. Hit the money in the air before it reaches them.
Chairman Ghost WorkerHis workers are invisible. Watch for shimmering air and hit it.
Hon. Constituency ProjectHe hides behind half-built boreholes. Smash them first.
Madam ContractHer contracts promote her boys into tougher ones. Swat the bundles out of the air.
Senator Budget PadderHis health bar is padded. Grab the budget document to strip the padding.
Oga Security VoteCash rains down with every new squad. Grab it, then deal with them.
His Excellency SirenWhen a lane flashes red, move. The convoy flattens touts too.
The ZookeeperA snake swallows evidence on the ground. Beat the snake and it coughs it all up.
Honourable DefectorHave full evidence before he gets low, or he crosses the carpet and heals.
The GodfatherHe's untouchable while his puppets stand. Cut the strings.

Each constituency also has its own trouble on the road: danfos with no brakes, wheelbarrows on market day, harmattan wind, falling blocks, NEPA taking light. When a lane flashes red, get out of it.

Every day

The title screen has three daily missions. Finish them for kobo, keep a streak going for bonuses, and spend kobo in the wardrobe on new outfits for your fighter. Post your score at the end of a run to get on the weekly leaderboard, and pick your city to see how it ranks against others. The board ranks by convictions first; the naira returned only decides between players with the same number.

After the Godfather: a second term

Convict all ten and the run doesn't end. They all get re-elected in new party colours, and the ladder starts again: tougher touts, more evidence needed and bigger loot every time. Every conviction counts on the leaderboard, so it belongs to whoever gets furthest. A run can go up to four terms.

Re-election teaches them new tricks. Councillor Stipend stops paying his boys and starts buying votes: he flings naira across the road and the crowd pours off the pavement to grab it. Every note they pocket pads his health. Get to the money first, and remember the voters are civilians: you can't hit them or walk through them.

The others come back with tricks of their own:

The people's stall restocks too. From the second term it sells a fourth tier of every upgrade, and from the third a fifth, priced for the bigger loot. If you maxed everything in the first term, that's where your kitty goes.

Quick answers

I knocked the boss down but he escaped. Why?

You didn't have enough evidence. Check the counter at the top right before you finish him. When it says case ready, go for the knockdown.

Where do I find evidence?

Touts drop it when you knock them out, and the boss drops some as you hurt him. Look for glowing papers on the road and walk over them before they vanish.

I got detained. Is it over?

Not yet. You have three lives per run, and each detention costs one and restarts the level. Lose all three and the run ends. Bail bonds from the stall add more.

Does it save my progress?

Your missions, streak, kobo, outfits and leaderboard name are kept in your browser on this device. Each run starts fresh, like any arcade game.

Do I need to download anything or sign up?

No. It's free and runs in your browser on a phone or computer. There's no account.
