The short version: there are no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. We count anonymous gameplay stats so we can make the game better, and we show the name you choose on the leaderboard if you post a score.
Who we are
Return Am! is made by FATHERXLDN LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales. We're the controller of the data described here. For anything about your data, email play@returnam.com.
What we collect
A random player code
The first time you play, your browser makes a random code (like 3f2a…) and keeps it on your device. It isn't linked to your name, email, phone or any account. It lets us tell one player's runs apart from another's and keep your leaderboard entry yours.
Anonymous gameplay stats
As you play, the game sends small events with your player code: that you visited, started a run, reached or finished a level, got detained and where, bought something at the stall, finished a mission, changed outfit, shared or saved your result, and how the run ended. Each event carries the level number and game details such as your fighter or the item you bought. We use these to find where players get stuck and to tune the difficulty. The visit event also notes which website sent you, if any (just its name, like t.co for X), and any campaign tag in the link, so we know which posts bring players in.
You can switch these off below. The game works exactly the same without them.
Leaderboard entries
If you choose to post a score, we store the name and city you enter alongside your score, fighter, levels reached, how long the run took and when. Your name and city are shown publicly on the leaderboard. Don't use your full real name if you'd rather not be identifiable.
An anti-cheat fingerprint
To stop spam and fake scores, our database turns your IP address into a one-way scrambled code using a secret key, and stores only that code, never the IP address itself. It's used to limit how many scores and events can come from one connection in a few minutes. We clear it after 30 days.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard short-term request logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to deliver the site and keep it secure.
What we don't collect
No accounts, passwords, emails, phone numbers, contacts, location, advertising IDs or payment details. We don't sell data, we don't run ads and we don't use third-party analytics or tracking cookies.
Stored on your device
The game keeps a few things in your browser's local storage so it works the way you left it: your player code, the leaderboard name and city you last used, your sound and music settings, and your daily missions, streak, kobo and outfits. These stay on your device. You can clear them with the button below, or by clearing site data in your browser.
Your player code on this device:
None yet. You haven't played on this device.
Why we use it
We rely on our legitimate interests in running the game, keeping the leaderboard fair and making the game better. We've kept what we collect to the minimum those purposes need, and none of it identifies you directly. Posting to the leaderboard is your choice each time.
Who handles it for us
We use Supabase to run our database, Vercel to host the site and Zoho for our email. They process data only on our instructions. Some of them may process data outside the UK; where they do, they use safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
If you tap Post on X, the game opens X with a message for you to post. Anything you post there is covered by X's own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Gameplay stats | 13 months, then deleted |
| Run records used to check scores | 30 days, then deleted |
| Anti-cheat fingerprint | 30 days, then cleared |
| Leaderboard entries | While the leaderboard runs, or until you ask us to remove them |
| Emails you send us | As long as we need to deal with your message |
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it. Email play@returnam.com with your player code from above, so we can find your data. Without it we usually can't tell which records are yours, because we don't know who you are. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Children
Return Am! is a cartoon satire meant for teenagers and adults. It isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them beyond the anonymous stats above. If a child has posted a name to the leaderboard, email us and we'll take it down.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
